Syn-AKE is an anti-wrinkle active peptide compound which is based on a synthetic tripeptide. This synthetic peptide mimics the effects of Waglerin 1, which is a naturally occurring peptide found in the venom of the temple viper (Tropidolaemus wagleri).
This synthetic peptide became a useful ingredient in cosmetics because it reduces muscle cell contractions, which is vital in smoothing mimic wrinkles. The only downside being, of course, this effect is short-lasting and reversible. Nonetheless, Syn-AKE is being used more and more in anti aging and wrinkle defying skincare formulations.
