Oxytocin is a naturally occurring, cyclic nonapeptide which acts as a neurotransmitter in the brain. This naturally occurring peptide is vital in many functions concerning reproduction and birth, it’s the principal uterine-contracting and milk-ejecting hormone.
An interesting thing about Oxytocin is that it’s one of the few hormones that exhibit a positive feedback loop; in other words, the release of oxytocin kicks certain actions in motions, which promote even more oxytocin release.
